World Series (1929)

World Series at Wrigley Field (1929): Inexpensive straw hats known as "boaters" adorn the field during the 1929 World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Athletics. Despite having one of the most potent lineups in baseball history (Cuyler, Hornsby, Wilson et al), the North Siders would go down to the Athletics, four games to one. Perhaps if the Atlas Special Brew had been licensed to produce something more agreeable than 0.0-to-0.5 percent near beer (it was still Prohibition), the fans could have more easily washed away their sorrows.
