The Chicago Cubs have played in a number of World Series

Caption #1: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
Since the modern series between the National and American leagues commenced in 1903, the North Siders have participated in 11 fall classics — winning it all in 1907, 1908 and (most joyfully) 2016. No team has repeated as champion since the 2000 NY Yankees.

Eyeglasses have become an emblem for quirky Chicago Cubs manager Joe Madden

Caption #2: MAUI JOE
Visionary? Or simply vision impaired? Whatever the case, North Side manager / fashionista Joe Maddon went 103-58 in 2016, plus 11-6 in that epic postseason. Pre-Maui Jim, there were Polo (2011) and the thick, black Hugo Boss (2006) rims, ironically named "the Yankee."

A W flag has been hoisted at Wrigley Field for wins since 1937

Caption #3: FLIGHT OF THE W
The "W" flag has flown since Bill Veeck Jr. brought ivy, bleachers and iconic scoreboard to Wrigley Field in 1937. But its origin can be traced to William Wrigley Jr.'s 1919 purchase of Catalina island, which included Wilmington Transportation and its white "W" on blue moniker.

The Eamus Catuli sign roughly translates to Go Cubs in Latin according to local legend

Caption #4: EAMUS CATULI: IT'S GREEK TO ME
Or Latin, rather. Since 1996, the "Eamus Catuli!" sign at 3633 N. Sheffield Ave. has beckoned WTF? Loosely, it's "Eamus" ("Let's go") and "Catuli" (literally, "One that whelps") — like, a baby dog or bear. So, "Let's go little bears!" becomes "Let's go Cubs!" Really.

A chalk wall full of World Series championship memories outside Wrigley Field in 2016

Caption #5: CHALK WALL CHEERS
It started with one fan, a piece of chalk and a tiny part of the Wrigley Field exterior brick wall. Seemingly overnight, North Sider supporters would cover every square inch with their tributes to 2016. The notes may have been washed away, but the memories will last forever.

The famous sign of futility atop a Sheffield Avenue rooftop was reset to zero in 2016

Caption #6: AC000000
In November 2016, for the first time since it was concocted in 1996, the Anno Catulorum (literally, "In the Year of the Cubs" in Latin) board on Sheffield Avenue was reset to all zeros — a welcome sign that the North Siders’ 108-year world championship wait was over.

2016 Wrigley Field World Series Champions marquee

Caption #7: 2016 WORLD SERIES MARQUEE
For the first time since it was installed in 1934, the landmark Wrigley Field marquee reads "World Series Champions." Alas, instead of "Since 1914" or some other tribute to its history, this ageless treasure also features the name of a Japanese car manufacturer.

1908 Chicago Cubs World Series Champion team photo

Caption #8: CELEBRATE LIKE IT'S 1908!
When there was no canned beer? And women only washed their hair once a month? No thanks! After three straight pennants and two championships, North Side fans in 1908 reportedly became bored with winning. Little did they know it would take 108 years to repeat.

An epic Game 5 of the World Series win for the Chicago Cubs over the Cleveland Indians

Caption #9: AN EPIC GAME 5 WIN
Not since Game 6 against Detroit in 1945 had the North Siders won a World Series game at home. No team down 3-1 had come back to win it all since Kansas City in 1985. And no team had come back on the road since Pittsburgh in 1979. The rest, as they say, is history.

No curse could foil the epic 2016 World Series championship run of the Chicago Cubs

Caption #10: CURSES FOILED AGAIN!
Not a billy goat in 1945. Not a black cat in 1969. Not even a very well-paid left fielder's inability to catch a foul ball in 2003 could stop this team. There's no one left to blame. It's 2016, and for the first time in 108 years, the Lovable Losers are again World Series champions!
